ERCOT Cancels Electricity Contingency Plan

ERCOT, Texas’ power grid operator, has scrapped a program to bolster power reserves for Texas' electric grid this winter, as no energy companies volunteered to restart inactive plants. The Electric Reliability Council of Texas was seeking additional electricity generation for about 600,000 homes to address a nearly 20% chance of emergency conditions. However, the program was canceled when offers only covered power for 2,200 homes, all from companies willing to reduce electricity usage during emergencies. ERCOT's CEO, Pablo Vegas, expressed disappointment and highlighted the need for improvement in future planning.
